NO!! For once I actually don't want to go for theater. Why? Because I personally think our script sucks. I felt so unrehearsed, despite actually practising and spending time with it. URGH!
Well I'm just gonna cut the chase and get straight to the class stuff. Warm up today was different. Pretty fun though. Rey had us walking around in space at first and then made us jump around and move in a crazy way. We all were jumping around like mad people. HAHA. Good exercise early in the morning. The hard part was that we had to freeze at the exact point when Rey said Freeze. Shoot, I'm so bad at this. Thank God I never found myself in some stupid one legged position. Phewww~
Then we had to act like we're drunk trying to walk in a straight line. I think we're all looked like kookoos.. HAHA But who cares?! We were having so much fun. Some of us pretended like we're falling. It was funny. I was saying things like, "I'M OKAY! I'M OKAY!" and pretended like I'm shoving the hands of whoever's giving me help. Haha.
Then we had to act as Burglars. First alone, then with a partner. I partnered with Leanne because she was the closest person around. It was fun though, crouching about and stuff. I could really imagine in my head the dark room, with lights coming out of the edges of the door towards the room. Me and Leanne were hiding behind the couch that faces the door. We peeked and made sure there were nobody around and began moving. It was soooo coool!! Not that I want to be a burglar or something :P
Then Rey told us to change partners and then start something new. I partnered with my own partner, Teck Sern! And if I'm not mistaken we did the whole I don't want to be with you kind of scene. Boring scene. Meh. He then asked us to freeze and gather around Valerie and Adam. Valerie was hugging Adam from the back and Adam seemed like he wants to get away from her. So we had to stand in a circle around them. They started the scene and we had to shout a freeze and somebody walked in. I was so bad at this, I swear. It's either that or I'm just really out of it today. I couldn't do shit in there. Urggghhhh ><. It's like I just blank out in terms of mind and body. Urgh. I don't know how to react or how I want to react. Grrr..
Next thing was our performances. We had 10 minutes to rehearse and stuff. I was rehearsing with Teck Sern when suddenly Leanne called me out. Turns out the comb was stuck on her hair LOL! So we tried untangling it but in the end Leanne just kinda pulled it out.
So the 10 minutes was up and Leanne and Adam went first, followed by Lih Seng and Valerie. Teck Sern and I had to go last. That sucks, especially seeing how the other 2 groups did so well. That doesn't help at all. But we have no choice but to go and do it right. So we did. It was I suppose, ok. Not the best. I mean it went as rehearsed, but I thought parts were bad and needed to work on. Luckily we have our pro director, Rey with us. He re-directed everything, and even made me so called "pole dance". Well the pole wasn't exactly there, but still I had to pretend that the pole is there. HAHA. I was so self conscious. I'm so out of it today. This is not good.
Blehhh, mental note. I need to stop thinking so much and let my body do the talking. Dude it's just theater class. No one's gonna judge you for being sexy for a change. Urgh. Oh wells.

Rehearsal Notes - Confusing Script
Yes, the script is confusing. It doesn't even make sense!!
So I met up with Teck Sern on Tuesday. We couldn't meet up on Monday cuz he had to go to a doctor. The poor boy got elbowed on his back twice in a basketball game.
So we met up at 1, right after our class to practice. We brainstormed a bit and tried out different scenes. But none of them worked well. So we took, what I would call an easy way out; turning everything to a sexual innuendo.
Bleh, I felt so awkward at first doing it, and it didn't help when people barge in a couple of times. But I think it was an ok practice. Not the best one but just OK. We went through runs and once we were done, we went to the script reading for the finals. We read up Flop Cop by Laura Cunningham and The Man Who Couldn't Dance by Jason Katims. We didn't get to read up Stars though.
So here's the beat and object exercise
Who am I?
- A stripper trying to get a client to sleep with her.
Where am I?
- A local club called Milkshakes
What time is it?
- Around 11.30pm. I had a bad business so far today.
What are my relationships?
- I have a relationship with the customer/client
What are the given circumstances?
- I haven't had a customer all night, so I'm trying to see if this guy wants some action
What do I want?
- To get him to come take my service and money
What is in my way?
- He's offering too little
What do I do to get what I want?
- Flirt with him more, hinting that I want more money
Here's the beats
A: (enters) GIRL! (takes off shirt) Hold ma poodle. (shakes chest and walk towards B)
B: Would you go out with me on Saturday? (wraps arm around waist and pulls)
A: Ohh (comes closer towards B's face) I hate your guts (flicks, then walks away)
B: The car just took the corner at a hundred miles per hour (takes out money)
A: (Turns around, saw RM100 only) What the hell?! (walks away further. He's too cheap man!)
B: (to himself) Why game so fun to play with? (takes out another RM100, calls A)
A: (goes towards B, takes the money out of his hands, Now he's worth my time) Have you taken your pills yet?
B: I enjoy singing in the bathroom (whispers in A's ear)
A: What did you have for lunch?! (walks away, digusted)
B: I looked in the mirror.
A: (looks at the money, and then the man) I'm about to go on a stage (Takes his hands and leads him out)
B: Enter Sandman.
Shitt!! I swear, this was sooo awkward in so many different stages. Bleh. Just hopefully things will turn out good tomorrow. Urgh. Cross fingers

I'm sorry, Whaaatt?!
[Monday, 19th March 2012]
So it's Monday again. Urgh I hate Mondays. It's like my longest day of the week with me doing nothing. But I suppose its probably the best Monday I had so far in this semester. Something happened and well let's just say it made my day :3 I won't talk about it so let's just get down to the real stuff.
So as usual, I got down early. I just got out of a sucky weekend because my laptop broke down just like that. I was freaking out as shit, and fudge, obviously I had to send it off to the repair. Luckily it was still under warranty, otherwise my dad would go ape shit on me. Bloody laptop.
Oh wells, Leanne joined me afterwards and we did our usual bitching. She told me about how someone ruined her day so early in the morning, and I talked about how people just want to scold other people without getting their facts right. URGH I find that so annoying. Bitch please, I know my shit so don't try to come up with reasons as to why my laptop broke down. GRRRR.
Anyway, so our main exercise for today was scriptwriting. After walking around in space, we were given paper and had to take a pen. Rey made us write a statement, a question, an exclamation statement, and a title of a song. We had them put inside a bag, and Rey took one paper by random, one by one. And, we ended up with this script:
Gurl! Hold ma' poodle.
Will you go out with me on Saturday?
I hate your guts.
The car just took a corner at 100 m/h
What the hell!
Why is game so fun to play with.
Have you taken your pills yet?
I enjoy singing in the bathroom.
What did you have for lunch?
I look into the mirror.
I'm about to go on stage.
Enter Sandman.
Two of my lines were picked out. Will you go out with me on Saturday and I enjoy singing in the bathroom. HAHA. Man this does not make sense at all. At first we had to read the lines normally; no tones, nothing; just reading. Dude it doesn't make sense at all. URGHH!! >< and Rey made us act it out. We had to come up with a scene where everything is justified and makes sense. After runs and runs, I got the sense that the lines that I say was more bitchy and high status than the lines that Teck Sern reads.
So yea, I thought of an idea where I was a popular girl in high school, and Teck Sern was more of a nerd, that I bully. He has feelings for me and tries to ask me out, but I, obviously feeling that I deserve so much better, pushes away.
Another idea was that I'm a stripper trying to get Teck Sern to sleep with me, but as I hit on him, he turns out to be more perverted than I am and it turns me off instead. HAHA. Oh wells maybe this one will work, since one of the effective ways to justify something is to make everything a sexual innuendo. HEHE young, horny teenagers. HEY we can't help it, blame the hormones. So yea, with two days to work on this, urgh I don't know how this is going to work out. Bleh.

BOOM!
[Wednesday, 14th March 2012]
So its the performance day for our neutral scene. And heck we didn't get the chance to practice much the day before cuz I just HAD to have a dispute with my mum over not picking up my phone. I mean, we decided that I'll go home at 4, and she called me up at 3. I was still halfway in practice and there's no signal in the ADP classrooms (Thanks Taylor's Thanks =.=), and I received a call whereby my mum started screaming on the phone. OH I really needed that.
So due to the lack of practice, me and Teck Sern met up early in the morning to practice again. Our battlefield scene needed to be worked on. So with the help of Leanne we came with a nice ending to it, although its a bit cheesy.
Leanne was freaking out, because her group mates weren't in yet. But they soon joined us and they practised by themselves while me and Teck Sern did the same thing.
Pretty soon Rey came in, and class soon started. We had to do the usual walk around the space thing and then sit with our partners. I remembered having to give Teck Sern a massage and he had to give me one. LOL man, to be honest I do give my mum massages, but I'm not good at it. So I was like oh shit. HAHA but whatever la its done.
So the next thing we do is to add actions to our lines. That DID NOT, I repeat, DID NOT, work at all. Our scene didn't suit the whole violence thing, instead it turned out as if I was running away from Teck Sern, bleh. And then we had to do our scene and Rey was watching us. And danggg, it wasn't working out. Oh wells, he's the pro.
So instead of making me a civilian trapped in a battlefield, Rey made me a falled comrade. Like our original idea, but I'm the fallen one instead of Teck Sern. Teck Sern then found me and tried to safe me, but I, at first refused. By looking at his persistence, I began to accept him, and allowed me to safe him. I was not prepared for this at all. At first, I couldn't feel the pain in my legs, but the more I practised the more real it felt. But it took me a while. Rey had to actually threatened punching me, because it was so not believable.. ><
After about 5-10 minutes of practice it was time to show our skit. DUDE I WAS NOT PREPARED AT ALL. That amount of practice wasn't enough for me to feel the pain enough to make it real. NO SHIT! I was so not prepared. But heck, we both went on anyway, and there were some plus points and minuses. Minuses was that I should have taken the time to change my decision and make more eye contact then with Teck Sern., and we shouldn't have picked up the rifle. Oh wells.
Oh and he commented about our prop. I shouldn't have used the nerf guns, whoops. HEHE.. Oh wells, we all make mistakes and I'll just have to make sure that I don't make the same mistake again. :D

Rehearsal Notes - Neutral Script
So, following the Monday class, Teck Sern and I straightaway met up over brunch/breakfast with some others. We sort of just talked about the basic idea. All the idea generation was done at night via facebook chat. HEHE, the wonders of facebook.
We settled on the idea of a comrade dying for the battlefield scene, where by Teck Sern gets hit and I had to pull him to cover. Then he would persuade me to go. At first I would refuse to leave him, but in the end I did. As for the beauty parlor scene, Teck Sern would be a obnoxious, rich and desperate boy who tried to get me to go on a date with him. He doesn't really want me, its just that he needs a partner for an event. So I was the last measure. But knowing this, I refused but in the end obliged just to get him off my backside.
The next day we met up and practiced down at one of the classrooms with Leanne and Co. The plan was to get us to watch each other, which failed, cuz both groups end up working on their own thing. So Teck Sern and I started on the beauty parlor scene with the help of Leanne as her company hasn't arrived. That went on quite smoothly and as planned. It wasn't that hard because there wasn't much connection between the two characters, and I've rejected people and not feel bad about it so you know. hehe :P
But when we tried out the battlefield scene, I realized that I just wasn't comfortable to do something so dramatic and all. We tried it out and we felt it didn't work. So instead we came up with another skit where I was a civilian trapped in an aftermath of a battle. Teck Sern was an amateur soldier who found me. At first I didn't trust him but in the end, I saw his sincerity and took his hands. I thought that this was another approach of a battlefield instead of having a scene set when the battle is still going on.
So here's the beat sheet and object exercise:
Scene 1: Beauty Parlour

TS: Ready?
C: (stops writing the bill) You know (she looks up, and stop halfway through her sentence)

TS: (grabs the bill, gets up and walks off) Okay.
C: (sarcastically) Great.

Curtain
C: (hiding in a corner, scared, looks around and made herself as small as possible)
TS: (enters in and walks around, carefully, a sense of fear and cautiousness around him.)
C: (sees the soldier entering and slowly turning to her direction, she softly cried) Please.
TS: (jumps and points the gun at her, to which she looks surprised, and cringed even closer to the ruins behind her. He approached her slowly and when he realized that she's harmless, he drops his weapon and squats down next to her and extend his hand. Pauses and when she doesn't respond, had to break the silent. Strictly) Please.
C: (looks at the hand, shakily) I can't
TS: Just try
C: I don't know (maintain level of shakiness and fear)
TS: Please (higher tone)
C: Can you - (Looks away from him)
TS: Don't even (firmly)
C: But (scared) NO! (slaps his hands away)
TS: (mutters) You're mad (silently and gently, once again extending his hands) Please.
C: (looks back at him, makes eye contact, looks at his hands, reaches out, hesitates and slowly took it) Alright
TS: Ready? (gets up)
C: You know (Hesitates, but was pulled up by TS)
TS: What's that?
C: (shakes head)
TS: here (ushers her in the direction of the exit)
C: okay (runs towards the exit)
TS: Great (follows behind)
Well we have some problem with the exit of the second scene. Why does all the problem comes from the second scene, ugh. Oh wells we'll see what happens. :)
We settled on the idea of a comrade dying for the battlefield scene, where by Teck Sern gets hit and I had to pull him to cover. Then he would persuade me to go.

Neutral, neutral
[Monday, 12th March 2012]
So its the first class after mid-terms, and for once I'm actually starting my journal the same day of that class.
Anyway, because I was too lazy to wait in the ADP office, I went straight to the experimental theater. It's so much nicer to wait there anyway, so I can sleep. After settling in, I put down my bag and went to clean my bowels, and when I got back Leanne was there already. So we chatted for a while and pretty soon people started pouring in.
Rey joined us pretty soon after, and he started the briefing. BUT I had to miss it cuz he sent Adam, Zong Yong and me out to get the photocopied books of the 10 minutes plays. Damn it was heavy, thank God for the two guys. So yea, I actually missed whatever he was saying to the class, but I didn't bother asking what it was anyway. Cuz I thought whatever it was he said in class, I'll know eventually. Hehe.
Anyway, Rey actually wanted us to start on our finals! OH SHIT! We have roughly a month and two weeks before the finals. Not a lot of time to rehearse a play, even though its only 10 minutes long. Oh wells, so Rey paired us up, and thank God, I'm not with Mohammad anymore. YES I AM MAKING SOMEONE LOOK BAD, LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT ALONE. That is how bad my experience with him is, or maybe I just can't handle people who are too relaxed. So I was paired up with Teck Sern. Yippee! I worked with him before for social psychology, so I think I'll be fine for finals. We got the Take Ten Book.
So then the class started, we had to walk around as usual. We had to wake each other up by slapping them, shaking them and all. It was quite funny looking at the expression of other people when they tried to wake each other up. Oh wells, it did somewhat worked because I end up laughing so much.
Then we had to talk in gibberish. I paired up with someone who I can't remember and started just bla bla-ing. we seemed like we actually are having a conversation, although I had no clue what we were saying. It was give and take, because in a way when I'm uttering gibberish, they stayed quiet and vice versa. Next we had to change partner and tell a dirty joke. I paired up with Vhina, and just started blabbering. It was awkward because I didn't know any dirty joke, damn. So I just tried to act as if like she's saying something dirty and I'm saying something dirty that we both end up laughing. It was awkward. Then we had to gossip. AH gossiping, I suppose it would come easily for any human being. Though, in this gibberish, I didn't think I did a very good job. Oh wells.
I was hoping we'd get to do a whole class on gibberish like in theater101. I remembered how me and Justin were on the verge of crying in theater101 because of this class. HAHA but that was last time. But then we had to cut the gibberish short.
We were given neutral scripts that consists of simple lines, and we had to go to our finals partner. So I went to Teck Sern. At first we had to read it normally (which I made the mistake of giving it assumptions) a couple of times. I was B and Teck Sern was A. I'll show you the script.
A : Please.
B : I can't.
A : Just try.
B : I don't know.
A : Please.
B : Can you.
A : Don't even.
B : But.
A : No.
B : You're mad.
A : Alright.
B : Ready.
A : You know.
B : What's that.
A : Here.
B : Okay.
A : Great.
So yea, it doesn't really mean anything. But it seems to me a bit sexual. HAHA. I'm not the only one who sees it that way ok, I mean Teck Sern too and I bet the others sees it that way. Well teenagers mind, hormones, 'nuff said.Well it was a bit hard to put it in a flat tone, since I was always the expressive girl, so yea. But I got it done so hehehehe.
Next we had to put in status. First A was low status and B was high. It felt good man! I mean Teck Sern is like way taller than me, and I, the smaller one, was bossing him around. Muahahahhahahaa. Anyway, I got so close to him, and said to his ear in this cold to my first line. It was awesome hehe. I felt powerful, and intimidating at the same time. But then he got his sweet revenge on me. I was like oh shit!! It was intimidating because he's like twice my size in terms of height, not sideways though. I'm fat. I love my food kay :P
Then the low status, had to be sick of all the bullying and leave the high status. So I had to leave Teck Sern at first, and he had to make up to me. Then the reverse was done. I found the once high status self suddenly being in lower status than before. Well it's expected. I mean if you are apologizing to someone you will be of a lower status than that of the person you're apologizing too. It's like throwing your ego away when you apologize to someone.
Then we had to stand as close as possible to one another. It was so awkward and I couldn't stop giggling. Since I'm so short, all I see is his shirt. I saw Lih Seng and Valerie and they were just the nice height for each other. Then we had to look up and say the lines to each other. We are already close, and we had to make eye contact, all the more awkwardness. At one point, I actually end up finding him cute (WTF?!) in a way. Bleh. HAHA guess I wasn't the only one that felt awkward, because unconsciously Teck Sern were actually inching away from me and I know that, haha.
Then we had the whole lying on the ground thing. I swear it was soooo awkward!! Teck Sern couldn't stop giggling and he looked like he was going to laugh. I swear I cannot look at Teck Sern like how I see Lih Seng or Eric or any other guy. No offense intended, but he just reminds me so much of my little brother that it felt so awkward for me to be supposedly lying in bed with him. And what does lying in bed means most of the time? Sex. OMG Its like having sex with my own brother, oh gosh that's just awkward.
So now, we have to do a whole scene in a chose place, and we had to perform it on Wednesday. Yeap that's right, WEDNESDAY. That means just two days of practice. No joke. Die die also have to do. So Teck Sern and I were given Battlefield and a beauty parlor.
Oh wells, good luck to us doing this.

The Semi-big day
[Wednesday, 7th March 2012]
Semi-big day because its midterms and not finals.
Well regardless I felt OK at the beginning. I had to come early because I have to tape the floor with Leanne and Vhina. Oh wells the work of a stage manager.
Then we ran out of tape. So I had to run to get some more. Thank God the Newspaper shop was open this early, so I just popped in and bought some and quickly finished taping the stage. The lines were not straight at all, but whatever, as long as it looks rectangle I'm good.
So people started coming in. Mohammad and I were just rehearsing on the stage and we had to switch with other people after 1 or 2 run-throughs. Then we simply go through the lines over and over again to make sure we had the flow of the essay.
When Rey came in, we were given 15 minutes to rehearse and then were briefed as to how the midterms is going to be conducted. We were told to pick a number, which we picked 1, and ends up having to go 3rd. Leanne and Lih Seng went first, followed by the trio of Filza, Wei Lim and Teck Sern, then us, and Adam and Valerie ends the scene.
Well I won't comment much on the other's performance. They were all obviously rehearsed well. I liked the ending for Lih Seng's and Leanne's skit, where they said, "bye" at the same time. Adam's and Valerie's were probably the best out of all of ours. I think I would have enjoyed acting in that skit.
Well for ours, I thought it went better than expected. I was more focused than the usual rehearsals, and it felt much more natural than before. But according to Rey I wasn't exactly in character when I first got in. Maybe it wasn't enough.
Rey also said that we played ourselves and that the character were far too close to ourselves. Which I thought was true. Although I'm not a hardcore gamer, I do game, and I am not as girlish as some other girls. So I thought that the character Sera was far too close to myself and therefore I end up playing myself. Damn, why didn't I realize it earlier.
All in all, I think that it could have been so much better and I should have stuck with the first script instead of changing it. It would have been so much stronger than the current script. So I do regret changing the script. But what's done is done and now all I can wish for is to have at least a final mark of B and I'll be good.
By the end of the class, Rey mentioned that we won't be writing our own plays anymore. HALLELUJAH!!! Finally working on actual script. This would be interesting. This is actually the part I'm looking forward to the most. Can't wait to start and meet my new partner :)
